Second KDE 4 Developers Snapshot Available

The second KDE 4 developers snapshot is now available. This 3.80.2 release includes source from all the KDE modules. Application developers are strongly advised to work primarily on KDE 4 from now on. This release builds with Qt 4.2.0 and 4.2.1 (but not the 4.2 preview). Packages are available for Kubuntu and currently working through the SUSE buildservice.

SQO-OSS Project Launched with KDE

KDE together with the Athens University of Economics and Business and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and other partners has launched SQO-OSS. This is a two-year multi-million euro project that aims to develop new tools and techniques for measuring Open Source quality.

KOffice 1.6 Released

The KDE Project announced the release of KOffice version 1.6, the long awaited version with major improvements in a number of areas. The 1.6 release is intended mainly as a feature release for the two fastest developed components: Krita and Kexi. This version also contains a vastly improved version of KPlato, our project planning application. However, other components are being actively developed too - with astonishing results.

KDE Celebrates 10 Years of the Free Desktop

The president of the KDE e.V. Eva Brucherseifer welcomed the audience of the presentation track at the KDE anniversary event at the Technische Akademie Esslingen (TAE) in Ostfildern near Stuttgart, Germany. Keynote speakers were Matthias Ettrich, founder of the KDE project, as well as Klaus Knopper of Knoppix fame. During their presentations they looked back at KDE's successful past 10 years and they offered their thoughts about the future of KDE and Free Software.

KDE 3.5.5 Released

The KDE Project today announced the immediate availability of KDE 3.5.5, a maintenance release for the latest generation of the most advanced and powerful free desktop for GNU/Linux and other UNIXes. KDE now supports 65 languages, making it available to more people than most non-free software and can be easily extended to support others by communities who wish to contribute to the open source project.

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of KDE

On 14th October 1996, Matthias Ettrich announced the beginning of a project which is now one of the biggest and most exciting open source projects. To celebrate this event we'd like to invite you to our little birthday party on Friday, October 13th, 2006 in the Technische Akademie Esslingen in Ostfildern (near Stuttgart).

KDE on the NBC Show "Heroes"

The pilot episode of NBC's flagship drama for the 2006 fall season proudly features a laptop showing a KDE desktop and KDE applications such as Kopete and KMix running on Mandriva Linux.
