The X Window System developer team at SUSE has released version 1.0.0 of the ATI Radeon R5xx and R6xx chipset driver it has been developing over the past few months for Novell’s technology partner AMD.

Novell today announced the availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10, the latest version of Novell's enterprise-class, open source real-time operating system for running high-performance, time-sensitive, mission-critical applications. With SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10, financial organizations can respond more rapidly to changing markets and new information, get greater application reliability and predictability, and identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks. This will allow them to increase revenue opportunities and improve service to their customers, even while reducing computing infrastructure costs.

The 8,000 employees of Watts Water Technologies make innovative products to control the efficiency, safety and quality of water within residential, commercial and institutional applications. To support its new ERP software, Watts Water Technologies chose SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop for use in a thin-client deployment. The company also runs SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on IBM, HP and Dell hardware for its back-end applications, print servers, DNS servers and Legato network backup environment.

The Instituto del Fondo Nacional de la Vivienda (INFONAVIT), Mexico's largest mortgage lender, has tapped SUSE Linux Enterprise from Novell as its platform for customer transactions. Providing services to more than 12 million people and 830,000 employers, INFONAVIT has deployed SUSE Linux Enterprise as the basis for its new payment collection system. With SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, INFONAVIT has a stable, flexible platform that enables it to provide a high-quality, easy to use service, while streamlining costs and administrative processes.

"SUSE Security announces that SUSE Linux 10.0 will be discontinued soon. Having provided security-relevant fixes for more than two years, vulnerabilities found in SUSE Linux 10.0 after November 15th 2007 will not be fixed any more for this product. Expect the last updates around November 30th 2007."

Lenovo and Novell announced an agreement to provide preloaded Linux on Lenovo ThinkPad notebook PCs and to provide support from Lenovo for the operating system. The companies will offer SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 from Novell to commercial customers on Lenovo notebooks including those in the popular ThinkPad T Series, a class of notebooks aimed at typical business users, beginning in the fourth quarter of 2007.

Novell is setting its entire Linux engineering team loose to hack on whatever Linux or open source projects interest them for the week of June 25 - 29.

With todays release of the CUPS bugfix/security fix update this will mark the last security update for SUSE Linux 9.3. It is now officially discontinued and out of support.

Novell today announced that SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 from Novell(R) is now available from Sun Microsystems on Sun* Ultra* Workstations. The Sun Ultra 20, Ultra 20 M2, Ultra 40 and Ultra 40 M2 Workstations are available with SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop, certified and supported by Sun.

PSA Peugeot Citroen, the second-largest automobile manufacturer in Europe, and Novell just signed a multiyear contract allowing the deployment of up to 20,000 Linux desktops plus 2,500 Linux servers from Novell.

Novell today announced its SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 has earned a 2007 InfoWorld Technology of the Year Award, being named "Best Linux Desktop." According to InfoWorld, "Novell's revamped desktop Linux* distribution combines professional fit and finish with unique usability features not available from other vendors. ... While Novell might not be the most popular company in the Linux world today, it’s still a very good way to gauge what’s going on in the Linux community. Their latest OpenSUSE release, OpenSUSE 10.2, has a number of new features - X.Org 7.2rc2, redesigned KDE and GNOME desktops, Firefox 2.0, etc. - as well as one massive change: the deprecation of ReiserFS in favor of ext3 as the default operating system.
