ATI RadeonHD Driver: First Release

The X Window System developer team at SUSE has released version 1.0.0 of the ATI Radeon R5xx and R6xx chipset driver it has been developing over the past few months for Novell’s technology partner AMD.

Novell Ships SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10

Novell today announced the availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10, the latest version of Novell's enterprise-class, open source real-time operating system for running high-performance, time-sensitive, mission-critical applications. With SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10, financial organizations can respond more rapidly to changing markets and new information, get greater application reliability and predictability, and identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks. To support its new ERP software, Watts Water Technologies chose SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop for use in a thin-client deployment. Mexico's Largest Mortgage Lender Chooses SUSE

The Instituto del Fondo Nacional de la Vivienda (INFONAVIT), Mexico's largest mortgage lender, has tapped SUSE Linux Enterprise from Novell as its platform for customer transactions. Providing services to more than 12 million people and 830,000 employers, INFONAVIT has deployed SUSE Linux Enterprise as the basis for its new payment collection system. With SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, INFONAVIT has a stable, flexible platform that enables it to provide a high-quality, easy to use service, while streamlining costs and administrative processes.

Discontinuation of SUSE Linux 10.0

"SUSE Security announces that SUSE Linux 10.0 will be discontinued soon. Having provided security-relevant fixes for more than two years, vulnerabilities found in SUSE Linux 10.0 after November 15th 2007 will not be fixed any more for this product. Expect the last updates around November 30th 2007."

Lenovo and Novell To Offer SUSE Preload on ThinkPad Notebooks

Lenovo and Novell announced an agreement to provide preloaded Linux on Lenovo ThinkPad notebook PCs and to provide support from Lenovo for the operating system. The companies will offer SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 from Novell to commercial customers on Lenovo notebooks including those in the popular ThinkPad T Series, a class of notebooks aimed at typical business users, beginning in the fourth quarter of 2007.

With todays release of the CUPS bugfix/security fix update this will mark the last security update for SUSE Linux 9.3. It is now officially discontinued and out of support.

OpenSUSE Drops ReiserFS; Sign of Things to Come?

While Novell might not be the most popular company in the Linux world today, it’s still a very good way to gauge what’s going on in the Linux community. openSUSE 10.2 will be offered as boxed product in Europe through retail as usual. In North America the box will be available through shopnovell. Due to production lead time first boxes will show up on shelves and onlineshops mid of December.
