A leading US Open Source expert and 25-year veteran of the Free Software community has rejected claims from major software companies warning of hidden costs associated with the technology.

One of the central claims made against Open Source or ‘free' software by established proprietary software companies is "you get what you pay for". They say there is no one to turn to when Open Source software systems stop running, whereas they provide Help Desks, technicians and other customer support as part of the purchase price.
